However the majority if time will be spent playing the games. Please bring a pen, paper and a pack of cards if you have one. All are welcome.

Celestial Navigation
Last year a course of four sessions was run on Basic Celestial Navigation. If you want to learn how to use a sextant to take sun sights and fix your position at sea, then a similar course this year could be of interest. The course does not well too much on the theory involved and mainly shows how to take sights, and calculate, from navigation tables, a position line. A reasonable familiarity with coastal navigation is required, but no other equipment or publications will be necessary. Four sessions, one per week (day to be advised), each around one and a half hours, should enable you to be proficient in this dying art. Throw away you GPS and embrace the freedom of the open ocean! 305;.

Crafts Meeting
What about a ladies afternoon, where you can show and share the handcraft materials and works you are doing or want to do on board? It can be patchwork, quilting, embroidering, crocheting or even making Christmas cards or other interesting things. Later you may even build your separate groups, meet at a different boat each week and learn or teach your technique to fellow sailorwifes with a cup of tea and a chat on board, but don't forget to send the captain off to the next available boat. Let’s talk about it on the net...

Dinner Parties - National Celebrations
Put on your dancing shoes, dig out your party clothes, create those costumes and get into a patriotic mood. At Kemer, we have many special events to celebrate just about anything that we can think of. Sometimes these are special dinners, happy hour events, on the beach, or parties. Among the events that we have celebrated were: Halloween, Guy Fawlkes Day, Thanksgiving, Santa Lucia Day, Christmas, New Years, Burns Day, Valentines, Easter and many national holidays of the liveaboard's homelands. We have also had Hawaiian night, pirate's night, French food night, Spanish omelette night, Finland's Independence Day, Birthdays, anniversaries and weddings.

Each event is coordinated by individuals of committees and usually becomes a group effort which is greatly assisted by the Navigator staff. Liveaboards also have taken part in the Annual Noel Baba Foundation conference and meet the Governor Day. Any suggestions for a national day of significance celebration with accompanying unique menu or other opportunities to celebrate would be welcome. The Navigator Staff also does a "Special of the Week" dinner that is an elaborate feast. We hope to have a 'traditional British Sunday Dinner' menu so we don't have to 'slave in our galleys' after those invigorating Sunday hikes!

Dance Lessons
Scotch,Salsa and Oriental, Dance Lessons.

Drowing And Art Group
If you are interested in art at any level, you are invited to join the art group in the navigator bar. We hope to include local field trips (weather permitting) for the painters and sketchers.

Kemer Net
Every morning on VHF Channel 69 there is a time for the Kemer Net. The purpose of the "Net" is to inform the liveaboard community about the activities going on in the marina, community and area. Each morning the 'Net' is 'hosted' by a 'net controller who gives the area weather, announcements about activities and any changes in scheduled activities, and important world events. Than there is an opportunity for everyone to make announcements, requests, ask for advice and share information.

Language Lessons
- Turkish Lessons Twice a week
- English Lessons Twice a week
- German Lessons Twice a week
- French Lessons Twice a week.

Model Sailing Boat Race
What about a ladies afternoon, where you can show and share the handcraft materials and works you are doing or want to do on board? It can be patchwork, quilting, embroidering, crocheting or even making Christmas cards or other interesting things. Later you may even build your separate groups, meet at a different boat each week and learn or teach your technique to fellow sailorwifes with a cup of tea and a chat on board, but don't forget to send the captain off to the next available boat. Let’s talk about it on the net...

Music At Kemer
Be ready to bring your voices out of the shower and your clarinets, guitars, harmonicas, and keyboards out of the lockers. Again this winter opportunities will abound to make music at Kemer Marina! A large group of returning cruisers will be sure to get the "Kemer Khorale" (not to be confused-yet-with the "Robert Shaw Chorale") off to a rousing start this year. We will be singing purely for the fun and enjoyment of it. We will also share our talents, whether meager or great, with others.

Our plans include: sing-a-long evenings again during Happy Hour at the Navigator; a "cabaret" talent evening with show tunes, instrumentalists, and a chance for cruisers to display their heretofore hidden talents; Christmas carolling on the quays and leading the carol sing at the Navigator; perhaps more romantic music for another fantastic Valentine's dinner dance; and pickin', jamming and singing whatever else the group wants. If you left your banjo, trombone or trap set at home; retrieve it for your winter in Kemer. If you have copies of your favourite songs or music, be sure and bring them with you, too. Whether folk or jazz, Bach, blues or Broadway, if there's enough interest we'll give it a try. See you in the fall.

North, South, East, West Going Meeting
Have you been to interesting cruising grounds? Are you planning a long or short distance cruise for the next season? Share your knowledge and experiences with other sailors. We all know that nothing beats the firsthand information about the good or bad experiences of other cruisers. Little tips and recent information about rules, regulations, people and places, which you can not find in any of the pilot books.

It can be about a coastal cruise to Istanbul, or through the Med, or to the Atlantic, or even about a trip you had inland. Please contact the office about which cruising area you are interested in, so that we can arrange a meeting before the next sailing season starts. We'll welcome all the experienced cruisers to share their knowledge with others.

Tennis
Depending on interest and knowledge we plan to have lessons for beginners, advanced beginners as well as for more advanced.

Aerobics
Will be three times in a week duration 45 min. After the lazy summer, join and find all your muscles again! Be healthy and maybe wealthy!

Bike Riders
Fancy having a morning off and going for a leisurely bike ride along the coast with friends? Kemer and surrounding district is ideal cycling country. We can meet every ... at ... o'clock at the gate and paddle for a couple of hours to do some local sight seeing and get the benefit of fresh air and exercise. You don't have a bike? No problem, you can rent it at the marina security office for a reasonable price. Details will be announced on the Net.

Sunday Outings
Get out your boots and cameras and join us for the traditional Sunday Outings. Every Sunday (weather permitting) we'll explore the spectacular natural beauty and historic treasures that surround Kemer. We will go by bus to the area's ancient cities, including Aspendos and Perge, for some light walking and serious picture taking. We will enjoy some easy to moderate hikes in the nearby mountains. We also will take a few serious hikes along the Lycian Way, and will combine good hikes and sites when we go to special places like Termessos and the Chimera. A few Sundays will be for both "Bikers and Hikers". We will usually bring our own picnics, but sometimes we will stop at a mountain trout restaurant or ask the great Navigator staff to bring a picnic to us. You can end a perfect day soothing those aching bones in a hamam, if you have enough strength left to walk to one!

ROTA YACHTING BLUE VOYAGE TOUR

Blue cruise is a discovery of Turkey's Turquoise Coast on a yachting holiday unlike any other. Many exotic beaches and picturesque islands are difficult and sometimes impossible to access from land, and the only way to see their intimate sights is to go by sea.

Only the Blue Cruise will give you the chance to explore the numerous bays and coves between the ports of Kusadasi, Bodrum, Marmaris, Göçek, Fethiye and Antalya on Turkey’s Aegean and southern coasts, presenting a varied cruising opportunity.

Tranquil anchorages contrast with lively resorts, the bustle of the bazaar and the rich history of bleached ancient cities - all set against a landscape of breathtaking scenery. The intended route should be thought over still at home, because you should outline it in your chartering documents.

Meals on board are especially good and freshly prepared, including a variety of fresh salads, fruits, grilled meats, seafood, local fish and Turkish specialties. Afternoon tea is served with biscuits or cakes. You have the option to include full board meals for your group at the time of booking.

Gulet

What is a gulet? A small sea craft. A refined version of a traditional fishing and cargo vessel used by fisherman and sponge divers to transport their catch. Romance enclosed: ravishing sunsets, splashes of sea-water and seagulls astern. A cabin to dry your hair and have a drink to get warm after the sunset. Just a pastime for skippers and skipperesses of fifteen! Is it? Nothing of the kind.

In the world of yachts watercrafts are clearly divided into castes, and the Gulets are the hand-made charter yachts. Their decks are equipped with many comforts: several bedrooms with en-suite toilets and showers, a saloon with fine wines and branded strong drinks, a dining area at the rear deck, and sun tanning area on the front deck. These are the yachts of comfort and relaxation. Aboard such a yacht one can go on a voyage, celebrate jubilees or just have a rest.

Building such a beauty usually costs quite a sum and lasts for several years. That’s why along with the new yachts the old ones keep on furrowing the seas. They get some renewal at the yards, with restoration of interior and other alterations.

Private Charter

From the moment you charter one of our yachts, the possibilities that lie open to you are endless. Your wish is our command and your destination your decision. You may be tempted to wake up in an exotic port or moored in an elegant harbor somewhere along the Turkish Riviera. You may prefer to seek the tranquillity of a hidden cove or enjoy an idyllic island all by yourself. Every day, you choose your own stunning backdrop and, wherever you decide to go, you'll travel in the peace, comfort and privacy of your own floating dream.

Swim, snorkel, windsurf, or kayak from your private gulet. You’d like shrimps or octopus in the dinner? It's yours, along with fish on the grill, at gulet's barbecue. Share this remarkable experience of Blue Voyage with your family or close friends. There are literally hundreds of classic and modern sailing yachts based in the Mediterranean coast of Turkey, but a quality of a yacht, chartered straight off in the port, will be probably the same as last-minute lodging in a private sector in comparison with five-star hotel – quite fit for living, but unattractive.

The choice of yacht is only limited to your imagination, as is to some degree, to the choice of itinerary and your budget. When you hire a yacht, you are free to make up your itinerary as you go along. Your skipper acts as a valuable advisory source and can guide you to some of the area’s lesser-known treasures. Blue Cruise Gulets accommodate 4 - 6 - 8 - 12 - 16 people. Hire your gulet, according to the size of your group and special desires.

In private charter crew services, passenger and vessel insurance, and harbor fees are included. It is possible to board or leave the yacht in Bodrum, Marmaris, Fethiye, Göçek, Kuşadası, or Antalya (Kemer) or nearby Greek ports. Custom cruises to special destinations. For these tours there is a selection of vessels for any budget.

YEŞİL MARMARIS BLUE VOYAGE TOUR

Marmaris - Muğla - Turkey

Yeşil Marmaris is one of the original pioneers of the yachting and tourism industry in Turkey. Founded in 1962, we are an A-listed, long-term member of the Turkish Tourism Association, TURSAB.

Our company offers a diverse range of services, including gulet charter, hotel and apartment accommodation, tailor-made tours and excursions, local handling operations for global tour operators and much more!

Our first love and passion is yachting and we are proud to offer luxury “blue voyage” charter along the turquoise coast of Turkey onboard our own fleet of luxury, wooden, motor-sailors, traditionally called “gulets”. As well as these fully-crewed yachts with tailor-made itineraries we can also offer bareboat sailing yachts for those who prefer to take the helm!

As well as the above ventures, we are the owners and operators of the fast-catamaran and car-ferry service between Marmaris and Rhodes, and our state-of-the-art, seaside waterpark in Marmaris offers fun-filled days for all!

Traditionally hand-made by master craftsmen, our fleet of attractive wooden motor-sailors, "gulets", are comfortable vessels ideal for relaxing charter. The gulets' broad, beamy hulls make for spacious decks and high headroom below.

The fore-decks are ideal sun-bathing areas and the vast aft-decks provide shady, cushioned seating for relaxing and eating al fresco.

The saloon and bar areas have books, CDs and a HI-FI system for your entertainment. Below decks, each light and airy cabin has a double or twin berth, some also with an upper single bunk. All cabins have opening port holes and most boats have ducted air-conditioning. Each cabin has an en-suite shower, basin & wc.

All gulets have plenty of storage room for fresh water and fuel. Fridges, freezers & ice-boxes keep provisions fresh, allowing you to stay away from busy ports for days to get the most from your cruise. Sails are raised in favorable breezes. Otherwise gulets rely on their powerful engines to cruise from one anchorage to the next.

For private charter groups we have an exclusive selection of gulets, ranging from 3 to 10 cabins. Our professional and friendly team will help you decide which one best suits you, according to your requirements and budget. Each gulet has an experienced and knowledgeable Turkish captain, chef & deck hand who will treat you to the best in Turkish hospitality.

They can suggest the calmest anchorages, take the helm, raise the sails, drop the anchor, rig the windsurfer, clean the boat, provision, cook and serve the meals and still have time to entertain you. The crew have their own separate quarters and at least one speaks a second language.

TOUR PLACE : GÖÇEK

Set at the north-west end of the Gulf of Fethiye, Göçek is blessed with magnificent scenery. Backed by majestic mountains and substantial pine forests it looks out over the Twelve Islands, which provide shelter for Göçek's almost circular bay that has made the village such a perfect, natural harbor. Lured by such perfection, the yachting community has long made Göçek a favorite, and it is also a popular stop for gullet cruises.

Perhaps this explains Göçek's impressive range of facilities for a place that remains so blissfully unspoiled: there are only a handful of small hotels and pensions, yet all along the wide, landscaped promenade that fringes the quayside, there are plenty of eateries, from simple cafes to excellent restaurants specializing in delicious fresh fish. In the back streets and around the old village square by the mosque, there is a surprising array of interesting craft shops.

From the harbor you can take boat trips around the Twelve Islands and a boat is also the natural choice of transport to reach Göçek's beaches, the nearest of which lies just a little further around the bay. An enjoyable, 20-minute trip - which is provided daily free of charge for Simply Turkey guests - takes you to an immensely picturesque cove on Göçek Island, where you can feel like Robinson Crusoe for the day!

Göçek which recently became the meeting point of yachtsmen and lovers of the sea, has attained a justified fame with its natural position. The coves where colorful yachts ranging from the latest models to small vessels meet, can be visited in all seasons. In addition to being an ideal place from the standpoint of wind, sea and air temperature, it is only 22 km from the Dalaman Airport with international standards. Also the yacht marina built in recent years and improved rapidly has placed Göçek into a privileged state. Any plane that you board, for example, in Istanbul, Ankara and even some places abroad would relieve you from the problems of world and take to the blue-green paradise of Göçek.

Besides all of these, Göçek is, at the furthest north end of Fethiye bay, and is in a location very close to both the islands and to the coves each more beautiful than the other. You can meet all of your requirements here before starting out for a blue voyage and very easily come back within few days to replenish your supplies.

Göçek which was a small village until very recently has now became a municipality within a very short period of time with the yacht marina. Due to its location on the Fethiye highway, in Göçek where land transportation is also made, you can obtain all the provisions you need to world standards as well as being able to find all kinds of domestic and foreign newspapers, books, and other publications. It is possible to enter into the port of Göçek, regardless of day or night, without any danger at all.

Yachts as well as being moored at the wharf, which belongs to the municipality, can also moor either at the Skopea Marina or at the Club Marina which takes its place in Büngüs Cove with unbelievable beauty.

Sea and nature in Göçek where no contamination takes place at all are gleaming shining as if they had just been created. In addition, the collection of contaminants in coves, by the Göçek Culture and Tourism Association shall contribute to the keeping of this condition in the area for a long while. Also the construction policy implemented by the municipality prevents the spoiling of nature by not allowing new structures.

This region, since 1988 has been declared a special environmental protection area and as a result has become a third degree natural site. In the waters near the Forest Department administration section in the vicinity of Göçek a breakwater and a variety of old remains can be observed.

The old name of Göçek is Kalinche and in nearby coves, like in this one, many other old remains can be seen. These remains are a proof of these coves having been used in earlier times. If you decide to stay in Göçek, like the famous poet Homer of Izmir says when the sun sends its golden rays behind the mountains and at the moment the color of the waters transform into the color of wine, colorful nights of Göçek start.

After living up the nights in Göcek until the time of complete satisfaction, let us depart here to meet in coves of Göçek which itself is the paradise on the earth which owns marvels of nature, each more beautiful than the other, like Atbükü, Boynuz Bükü, Bedri Rahmi, Sıralıbük, Sarsala, Manastır, Göbün Coves, Yassıcalar, Tersane and Domuz Islands.

BLUE VOYAGE YACHT CHARTER

Yours to savour are long, sun-filled days on the water, sailing from pristine anchorage to scenic cove, dropping anchor to swim, snorkel or dive in the clearest of turquoise waters... followed by evenings of dining on exotic fare, shopping for gold and Turkish rugs, or joining in on village celebrations, and dancing well into the night.

As you slip into a daily routine of morning swims, lazy breakfasts in the cockpit, day sails and afternoon ramblings ashore, you soon discover that yours is a very special kind of vacation, one in which time ceases to matter and the days are recalled by the ports you have visited and the fabulous sites you have discovered along the way.

The crew are at your disposal and will see to it that your days are as full and active or as quiet and restful as you need them to be. In fact, your only concern is how best to spend your time: where to go, where to anchor and what to do ashore by day and by night.

If after having read this you conjure up as your ideal vacation the luxury of doing as little as possible, just sitting back and enjoying the passing scenery as your yacht drifts along, you might be persuaded to charter a yacht - a sailing yacht, a motor yacht, a yacht yacht - it's a unique way to travel and one which you will have to sample at least once in your lifetime.

The choice of yachts for private charter is extensive: sailing yachts with Turkish crew, European crew or American crew, classical and modern motor yachts, motor-sailing gulets and bareboats - either with or without a skipper - this latter choice is for sailors, people with a skippers licence, extensive sailing experience or a desire to learn.

Crewed Sailing Yacht
The crewed sailing yacht yacht holiday gives you the opportunity to try out sailing with the security of having an experienced crew along for the ride. On such a vacation, the choice is yours to do as much or as little as you like: you can either join in and help trim the sails or steer the yacht, or just sit back and let the crew do all the work.

The choice of sailing yachts is vast, from small and yet sturdy ocean-going ketches with a cosy cabin for a couple to cruising maxis with over 5,500 square feet of sail. Tell us what you have in mind, what size, what type and what range of price and we will do our best to match you with the right yacht for your vacation.

Crewed Motoryacht
Charter your own floating island! Motor Yacht vacations spell hours of fun and activity: most carry a whole range of watersports equipment and the crew are there to provide the necessary tuition. Chartering a motoryacht also means you have more of the home comforts at hand - generally speaking, more room to move and no heeling whilst under way!

The faster the motoryacht, the more you can see in a short space of time, so if yours is the trip of a lifetime and you absolutely MUST see all the highlights, consider chartering a motor yacht

Crewed Motorsailer (Gulet)
Chartering a gulet give you the chance to enjoy the ultimate Turkish cruising experience: this is a relaxedkind of holiday where you will be expected to do nothing but suit yourself, all aboard a big, beamy vessel with lots of deck space and four or more spacious cabins. Your every need is attended to by your Turkish crew who will endeavour to introduce you to the richness of the Turkish culture. It is essentially a gourmet cruise!

Bareboat
If you can gather together an able crew : skipper, first mate, cook and deckhands, then charter a yacht of your own and see the coast at your leisure, spending a week, two weeks or a month moving in and out of all the bays and inlets along the coast. There are so many bareboats to choose from, some are the very latest models and all are in top condition.

If you plan to miss nothing, hire a skipper with local knowledge - someone who can show you where to anchor and what to see ashore.

If you will skipper the yacht yourself, we will need a copy of your skipper's licence, or some proof of your competence, such as a log book or references from charter companies through whom you have chartered bareboats in the past.

Cabin Charter
The alternative to chartering a private gulet is to hire a cabin on a gulet and join a set departure, set itinerary cruise for a week of total relaxation on the Gulf of Fethiye, the Gulf of Gökova, the Gulf of Antalya and the Greek Islands.

GULET

The Şenkaya is a wooden motorized sailing vessel (traditionally known as a gulet) built in 1995 on the Turkish Turquoise Coast. This 25 m vessel offers a luxurious standard of comfort and safety. It is equipped to sleep up to 16 guests in 6 double-bedded cabins and 2 twin-bedded cabins (see below).

The Şenkaya can be chartered for 1 or 2 weeks for itineraries cruising the South Aegean. The 'house party' style atmosphere onboard is very informal and guests are made to feel at home. We offer free use of a canoe, plus snorkeling and windsurfing equipment. You are also welcome to fish off the side of the boat.

The Şenkaya can go under sail whenever conditions permit or use the engine when required. The maximum cruising speed is 10-11 knots.
The guest accommodation comprises outside double or twin-bedded cabins each with its own bathroom including wash basin, shower and new push button vacuum pump toilet. All the cabins have been recently refurbished and now include air conditioning. If you prefer to sleep on deck, feel free! You will awaken in the morning to the sounds of nature all around you.

The salon is tastefully fitted, there are fitted carpets throughout and the bar is well stocked. We also have an ice-making machine. For guests' use we have full stereo CD equipment.

Cuisine
All the food is freshly sourced from local markets. Much of the food has been organically produced and we prepare lots of healthy salads and pasta dishes. Fresh fish is available at least once a week. The chef and stewards take much pride in cuisine they serve onboard.
Enjoy your meals in the salon or outside on the spacious quarter-deck at the rear of the vessel. We also hold a barbecue at some stage during your week's cruise.

Safety
The Captain is English speaking and has much experience in these waters after many years in the Navy. We carry VHF radio, GPS navigation equipment, depth sonar equipment, a new radar system and a mobile phone. Each cabin is equipped with life jackets.

DELTA YACHTING BLUE VOYAGE TOUR

Bodrum - Muğla - Turkey

Imagine the scene.. a dramatic Mediterranean sunset, crystal clear water inviting you for a dip before dinner, a 17m boat all to yourself, tranquillity, the smell of fresh grilled fish from the barbecue, an ice cold local drink of raki in your hand..and the thought that you can do this for the next 7 days.

Of course this may not appeal.. you may wish to share this experience with your loved ones, your family, your friends..no problem. You may not like fish..no problem. You may prefer a little music to the sound of silence..no problem. You may prefer gin and tonic, or a cold beer...no problem. And you can do this for as few or as many days as you wish.

My English-speaking husband Doğan, owner and fully-qualified captain of Delta, has 17 years experience of sailing in the area and is a keen and accomplished spear-diver. The fish for the barbecue can't get any fresher! I am English, fluent in Turkish, and have been living in Bodrum for 15 years. When it comes to planning your holiday, we will liaise with you personally, individually tailoring your holiday to suit your wishes, and we will make sure you have a holiday to remember.

We are based in Bodrum, a picturesque and enchanting harbor town on the south-west coast of Turkey. Bodrum lies at the mouth of the Gulf of Gökova, considered by many to offer the best sailing area in Turkey.

Delta is our pride and joy: a 17m traditional wooden sailing gulet, built in Bodrum. She is comfortable and well-equipped but not luxurious - there are 4 double cabins all with en suite wc and shower, hot water, full sails, good music system, separate crew cabin?but you won't hear the constant humming of a generator, so there is no 220V supply - no use packing a hairdryer! Doğan and his 2 crew members will look after you during your cruise, preparing food to your liking and plying you with cool drinks. How about a beach barbecue? Why not. Or dinner in a restaurant on shore? No problem.

Delta is suitable for groups of 2 - 8 people. A romantic honeymoon, special wedding anniversary, friends' reunion, birthday gift, or just the perfect family holiday?whatever the reason, we'll make it a special holiday you won't forget.

OUR SERVICE

First and foremost we are 'owner operators' and proud of offering a completely personal service combined with excellent value. Sure, we don't wear fancy uniforms but we offer a friendly, informal service backed by real expertise and experience. With us you can enjoy a taste of the real Turkey: the warm hospitality of the local people, the stunning bays and hidden coves, the reminders of ancient civilizations almost everywhere, the simple joy of eating a freshly-prepared dinner under a star-studded sky.

Real Flexibility - You are not bound to just a 1 or 2 week holiday as with the main tour operators. You may wish to combine a 5 day cruise with 10 days in a hotel, for example, or vice versa. You may have a preference over places to visit and types of moorings, eg quiet, secluded bays, or small harbors. Wherever possible this will be your choice.

Real Privacy / Exclusivity - When you book our boat, there will be no other guests on board. Delta is suitable for just a couple, or a party of up to 8 people, depending on your preference and budget. Whether you are looking for a party atmosphere, or a peaceful, relaxing holiday, the choice is yours.

Real Value - There is no middle-man, no tour-operator. Our overhead costs are low. For these reasons our prices are competitive. You pay us direct, a 33% deposit guarantees your booking, the remainder is payable on embarkation.

Real Personal Service - While planning your holiday, you will deal directly with myself and my husband. We will answer all your queries about Delta and your itinerary. You will know exactly what your boat will be like, and who your captain is. You can discuss menu preferences with us, special drink requests, transfers to and from the airport, carpet buying trips, hotel reservations?whatever comes to mind.

GULF OF GÖKOVA - A TYPICAL ONE-WEEK CRUISE

OMERAGA BLUE VOYAGE TOUR

Fethiye - Muğla - Turkey

Discovering the best beaches of Mediterranean Sea and having a unforgettable holiday while sealing through untouched coves.

Between blue's and green's, you will swim at the cove where Cleopatra has had a bath. After that cooking fresh fishes and tasting your drink while looking moon light.

That is Blue Cruises... By the coast you can see historical places and archaic cities like Knidos, Loryma, Kaunos, Xantos, Patara, Myra, Olympus, Phaselis and others. Everyone has a unique color...

This most popular of sea adventures began quite by mistake when a few years after the foundation of the Turkish Republic, a political writer, Cevat Şakir Kabaağaçlı, was exiled to Bodrum for publishing a story about army fugitives.

Cruise will start from Marmaris and goes on with Tersane Island, Cleopatra Cove, Ekincik, Dalyan. If you wish you can go Gemiler Cove, St. Nicholas, Ölüdeniz, Kalkan, Kaş, Kekova too.

ROUTE
Ölüdeniz - Gemile - Kalkan (Patara - Xantos - Letoon) - Çayağzı (Myra - St. Nicholas) - Gökkaya - Kaleköy - Kaş - Bayındır - Karacaören - Göçek - Kızıl Ada - Fethiye.

Kekova
The Gulf of Kekova is one of the most picturesque stretches of the coast and has several bays and villages to explore. The charming village of Üçağız (literally ‘three mouths’) has a few remains of the Lycian village of Teimiussa.
On Kekova, there is no trace of the city which once dominated the island - its ruins and foundations can now only be seen under the surface of the clear water on the northern side of the island. On land, there’s nearby Kale, a village on a steep hillside leading up to the medieval fortress and theater of ancient Simena. The local landscape is dotted with the ruins of Lycian tombs, forts and Greek settlements.

Kekova Island
The Gulf of Kekova covers a large area. Settlement areas such as Kekova Island, Kaleköy and Üçağız are all within this region. It has some of the best diving and yachting spots in Turkey. Kekova Island gave its name to the region. Even in rough weather this is a calm spot as it is cut off from open sea by Kekova Island. Its name in ancient times was Simena, the ruins of which are scattered from the port up to the hills and even in the sea. Those who walk up the hill to the theater on top of the hill are met with a picturesque scene. There is no better spot to take a photo.
Opposite to you there is Kekova Island and on your right Üçağız. There are Lycian rock tombs everywhere on the hill.

Theimussa (Üçağız)
Sixteen kilometers after Kaş is the turn for Üçağız. Nine
kilometers after the intersection is the village of Kılıçlı and a further 1.5 kilometers from the village is the ancient city of Apollonia. If you have the time, it would be worthwhile taking a look. Üçağız is a fishing village on the shores of the Gulf of Kekova, six kilometers from Kılıçlı and 31 kilometers from Kaş. Boats going on tours in the gulf use the wharf at Üçağız. The wharf has small pensions and some fine restaurants with the freshest fish direct from the region. The village was built on the remains of the ancient city of Theimiussa. To get to Kaleköy (Simena) boats operate from this wharf or boats from Demre-Çayağzı. Larger boats operate daylong cruises from the Demre-Çayağzı wharf..

Kalkan
In the entrance of the wide Kalkan Cove there are the islands of Yılan (Snake) and Sıçan (Rat) forming the Islands of Çatal (Fork). Yılan Island drops into the sea with great steep rocks, while Sıçan is more suitable for anchoring and swimming. The daily boat tours from Kalkan stop here either on the way from Kalkan or on the return to Patara.

Patara Beach
It is a seven kilometers long beach. Both the beach and the bottom of the sea are of very white sand. Around the center of the beach the Eşen Steam flows into the sea. The beach is an egg-laying ground for the Caretta Caretta sea turtles. This area is covered by an environmental protection order. You can visit the ancient cities of Letoon and Patara right behind the beach. It is pleasant to have a horse-ride on the beach. Four kilometers inland there is the village of Gelemiş where you would have plenty of options of pensions, restaurants and shops.

Xanthos
The historian Herodotus, in reference to war in 545 BC against the invading Persians, wrote, " When the Persian army came onto the Xanthos plain under the rule of their commander, although they were very few in numbers against the unending large numbers of the Persians, the people of Xanthos kept fighting. They gained a reputation for their heroism but they have lost the war against them. They placed all the women, children, treasures and slaves into the castle. Then they set it on fire. Such was the fire that has destroyed everything. It was after that they took a binding oath and began fighting the enemy. All died in the fighting."

Although Xanthos was frequently destroyed by fires or wars every time it was rebuilt. The city was destroyed completely in the Roman era by Brutus and but was reconstructed by another Roman commander, Marc Antonius. In the Byzantine era Xanthos was a center of a bishopric, though it was finally abandoned after a series of Arab attacks. If you go to Xanthos through Kınık the first remains you encounter is a part of the Hellenistic gate on your right. To the left of the road there is an arch dedicated to the Roman emperor Vespasian, a gift in thanks for his great contributions to the city. The ruins you will see a bit further up on your right are what is left of the magnificent Nereids Monument, the most impressive pieces of which were taken to England by ship in 1841-1842.

Today these pieces have been restored and the monument is on display in the 7th hall of the British Museum. If you head to the left towards the acropolis past the walls you come to the theater. After this you will see the Lycian tombs that have become the symbol of Xanthos and the Harpies Monument above the tombs. Since the statues of the monument were taken to England, what you see today are plaster copies of the originals. The original Harpies Monument is also on exhibit in the British Museum. At the Lycian acropolis there are also the remains of the agora and a Byzantine basilica. Once you get to the acropolis take in the view. The hill that overlooks the plain is the site of the ruins of the ancient Lycian palace. On the right of the road in Xanthos and opposite the acropolis there is a Roman acropolis, where you can see a Byzantine basilica, rock tombs, the Pillar Monument and the ruins of a tomb with lion reliefs

Letoon
On the Fethiye-Kalkan road, two kilometers before you come to Kınık, there is the signpost for the ancient city of Letoon. It is also 19 kilometers before Kalkan. Letoon is four kilometers further once you take the turn onto the road in the middle of the greenhouses. You can go to the entrance of the historical site by car. The traces of the settlement in the ancient city of Letoon have been dated to the 7th century BC. The ruins and the finds show that this was a political and religious site. Letoon was the joint
temple of the Lycian Union.

There is a legend recalled by the poet Ovidius, which tells that the Goddess Leto, who was pregnant with twin gods Apollon and Artemis to the God Zeus gave birth to them in Delos. Then she went to the Xanthos River (now the Eşen Stream) and walked all the way to the mouth of the river. The Goddess wanted to wash her children in the mouth of the river but was prevented from doing so by the locals. She got furious at this and, by way of revenge, turned all the locals into frogs. This is why the temple of Leto is sited where the incident is supposed to have taken place. The other two temples in the ancient city were built for Artemis and Apollon.

However, today only the bases of all three temples remain. They are lying under the water that keeps seeping up and never seem to disappear. On the top of the columns of the temples frogs and the turtles lie sunbathing. Could they not be the descendants of the people the Goddess Leto turned into frogs? The Lycian city of Letoon was abandoned after the 7th century once it has lost its importance. To the south west of the temples there is a fountain and to the east a Byzantine church. To the north of the archaeological site is a stoa and at the backside of the city, partly leaning against the natural hill, is a Roman theater, which is in good condition.

Do not leave the site if you have the time go to the seaside. Just as in the case of Patara, Letoon suffers from sand-dune problems and, in order to prevent sand getting to the greenhouse areas, the two kilometers deep and eight kilometers long beach of Letoon has been planted with sand acacia and mimosa trees. The tree planting in the area began in the 1960s. Go through the trees and continue on the sand road that takes you to the sea. Letoon is a part of the 18 kilometers long Patara Beach. It has the same characteristics of Patara Beach. However, around it there is not one restaurant, café or pension. Be ready for this if you are going there for a picnic.

Myra (Demre)
The place where St. Nicholas, also known as Santa Claus, used to live. When he died in 343 AD he was buried in a sarcophagus and placed in a church built in his honor and bearing his name. This church is in the city center and
should be seen. The city of Myra, which was an important center of the Lycian Union, is also located in the center of Demre. At the entrance to Myra there is a theater and behind it are many tombs carved into the cliffs. These are the finest examples of carved rock tombs of Lycia. Those who are confident in their fitness and balance can follow the pathway and climb to the acropolis.

St. Nicholas Church
If you want you can get to the port of Çayağzı (Andriake) in Demre. In ancient times Andriake was the port of the ancient city of Myra. From here you can get ashore and visit the historical sites of Myra and the Church of Saint Nicholas.

ROUTE
Marmaris - Ekincik - Kaunos - Fethiye - Turunç - Marmaris.

Ekincik
Ekincik is a small but very pretty bay lined with pine trees and is a popular stop with all boats doing the run from Marmaris to Göçek or Fethiye. There is a very good restaurant ashore here with a great view of the bay, opposite the village, and another one on the edge of the village which is a lot cheaper but still great fun. Ekincik is also the ideal place for those based on a yacht to visit Dalyan and the ruins of Caunos. The Dalyan river is too shallow to take a yacht, but there are plenty of shallow draft river craft to take you through the delta to the town or to the ancient Caryan ruins at Caunos, for a price. .

Dalyan
Dalyan is ten minutes drive from the center of Çeşme. It is the most popular place to be during those beautiful summer nights. Along the inlet there are seafood restaurants, meyhane’s (taverns) pensions and hotels. Along the Aya Yorgi cove there is a beach, restaurants and pensions.

K
aunos
The ancient city of Kaunos, the mud baths at the side of the Dalyan channels and, even though the famed Kings Tombs of Kaunos are opposite in Dalyan, all are within the borders of Köyceğiz. One side of the channel is Köyceğiz and the other is Ortaca. In the travel book the details on the mud bath and Kaunos are also covered in the Dalyan section. In order to get to the mud baths and the ancient city of Kaunos you can either take a daily boat cruise leaving from Köyceğiz or travel by road by going to Ekincik and then following the road that winds around the lake from Sultaniye.

The ancient city of Kaunos
You can also go to Kaunos by boats leaving from Dalyan. From the wharf near the ruins reachable from Dalyan by boat it is just a 10 minutes walk to the remains of the ancient city of Kaunos. Those coming by yachts can drop anchor around Delikli Ada and go ashore by small boat. Kaunos was a significant trading port, though it lost its strategic importance as the alluvial sands filled the harbor. According to the father of history, Heredotos, the people of Kaunos were natives of Caria who considered themselves to be Cretans. The ancient geographer Strabon writes that Kaunos had ship building yards and a port that could be closed and opened according to need. Miletos’s son Kaunos, exiled for having had an illicit relationship with his twin sister, founded the city. The rock tombs that can be seen from as far away as Dalyan were built in 4 BC and were also used during the Roman period later.

In Lycian type tombs the dead were placed on rock beds. Surrounding the tomb are two Ionic columns, which have a relief and pediment. On one of the pediments is an ornament depicting lions. The port of the city was what is now Lake Sülüklü down from the acropolis. In those times the sea reached as far as the Kaunos acropolis. When the Persians captured Anatolia the city came under the control of Mausolos. After Alexander the Great defeated the Persians in 334 BC the city was ruled by Princess Ada, then Antigonos and later Ptolemy. It was successively part of the Kingdoms of Rhodes, Bergama and then the Roman Empire. Kaunos lost its importance after its harbor was silted up. The acropolis was set on a hill at a height of 152 meters.

The city walls to the north are a remnant from the Middle Ages. The long city walls start from north of the harbor and go on till the steep cliffs past the village of Dalyan. The northern part of the city walls were constructed during the time of Mausolos while the walls to the north west were constructed during the Hellenistic era. Those towards the harbor are from the Archaic era. The city’s theater is at the foot of the acropolis. It has 33 rows of seats. The remains of a building to the west of the theater are of a basilica type church.

The others are of a Roman bath and a temple. Further below is an incomplete circle construction with fluted columns and behind this is a podium with three steps. Here the remains of the temple can be seen. The nature of the circle shape structure is unknown. A stoa was unearthed during excavations to the north of the old port of Lake Sülüklü. Many statue pedestals were found around it but the statues were not recovered. The fountain near the stoa has been restored. To see the city walls and the towers a long tour of discovery should be carried out.

Those who wish can visit the old port area of Kaunos that is now Lake Sülüklü Lake by boat or go to the nearby village of Çandır. On the quay of the village of Çandır there is always a line of cruising boats. These boats provide services to the yachts that come to Istuzu Beach. They will take passengers of the yacht to Dalyan and the mud baths. When you get to the quay the large big holes carved into the stone hills will catch your attention. These use to serve as a form of lighthouse as giant fires was kept burning in these holes at night to guide the ships that were coming to the port of Kaunos.

Turunç
Turunç is 20 km away from Marmaris. It is famous with its huge sandy beach. Turunç beach has a blue flag also.

GOÇEK YACHT CLUB

RACE
November '06
4th of Autumn regatta will be held on 6-10 November 2006.

Göçek Yacht Club was founded in 1999 in Göçek town under the name of Göçek Yacht Specialization Club Association. It still operates as a part of Turkish Sailing Federation. The club organizes regattas and sailing courses in order to train the future yachtsmen and to increase the interest in sailing. As a consequence of the support from Port Göçek Marina, the club has now got a building and a clubhouse.

Our club has been supporting the young sailors by participating in national and regional races in previous years, and has also carried out the annual Autumn Regatta successfully. Göçek Yacht Club has started its first courses with the support of Pınar Süt Company with 6 optimists in 2001. Since the courses started about 200 kids have had chance to meet with the sports of sailing during the trainings in summer.

Sailing School
Göçek Yacht Club organizes Optimist Sailing Courses for the children of the region for the main purposes of training the children that will be future’s local sailors, and to provide a progress in yachting and to make it wide-spread.

We need financial sources to meet the requests and to give a better service in future. The fees obtained from the courses and the regattas are again transferred to the Optimist part of our club.

2005 summer Optimist courses of Göçek Yacht Club has ended. 24 trainee at the ages of 6-15 participated in our course which was organized to be 4 seasons. In the first 2 days of the course, the trainees were taught the basic parts of yachting and sailing by our club’s trainer Ali Osman Ayan. The trainees learned to sail with Optimist dinghies during their 10 days’ courses. The trainees who attended the following courses learned more about sailing with Optimist dinghies.

At the end of the course, with the participation of the parents and the contributions of our club, small celebrations have been made and certificates our club had prepared were given to the trainees for their participation. Our club decided to give licenses to 5 trainees. Below mentioned trainees of our club will continue their training during the year in our licensed sailing team. In the future, they will represent our club in regattas with other licensed yachtsmen of our club.

We are thankful to all of our members, Port Göçek Marina, Göçek Municipality for their contributions; to the parents for their gifts for the trainees during the courses and to all of the sea and sailing friends.

MARMARIS INTERNATIONAL YACHT CLUB

The Marmaris International Yacht Club was founded in 1992 by the yachtsmen and women of Marmaris. Prior to the formation of the club, these people would hold various amateur races between themselves but once the club was set up, they saw an opportunity to create an official get-together and organised the first Marmaris Race Week.

The MIYC has about 80 members today and each year during the Marmaris Race Week, hosts around 120 yachts and 1000 racers from all over the world.

The MIYC has also been the main body responsible for the organisation of the Marmaris Yacht Festival for many years. This is an international event which gives the local crewed charter yachts and local agencies to promote themselves and the Turkish coast as a charter destination.

MIYC has started the Yacht and Yacht Equipments Fair with a couple of stands on the first years of the festival. Now it has expanded its activity range with the yacht and yacht equipments fair by organising it as a separate event since 2001. The fair is organised by the time of festival each year and it provides an extra potential to the region’s existing maritime business.
